The Brainstorming Stage

I have only attempted to play solo rpg one other time, using the Ironsworn: Starforged system. I enjoyed it, but I have also found myself wanting to be able to use the Cortex Prime system. I haven’t been able to use the system more than a few one shot, so I’ll use it and add several tools:

  • A few tables from the Mythic GME 2E
  • The Motif Story Engine (MSE) as the primary oracle
  • Tables from Ironsworn: Starforged
  • Sci-Fi Game Master’s Apprentice Deck (GMA)
  • Story Engine Print and Use (Main deck, Loremaster’s Deck, and eventually Deck of Worlds)
  • Some character creation tools for inspiration from Savage Worlds
  • Universal NPC Emulator (UNE)

The only universe details so far:

  • Space Opera and Fantasy mix (ships, blasters, magic)
  • Mixed races from various sources

The character concept:

Hindrances from Savage Worlds and some scanning of races led to:

  • Clone
  • Wanted
  • Ailment

End result: A Mikkian clone, escaped from a facility where the clones were grown for later organ harvesting (think The Island). The company has a warrant out on them and will likely send bounty hunters. The clone is also slowly dying (perhaps he can find a cure?). Before he dies, he wants to see Nakajima exposed and other clones set free. [Drawing cards from the GMA]: his name is Janus Joroll.

The character stats

Distinctions (each with Hinder)

  • Escaped Mikkian Clone from Nakajima Technologies (another GMA card draw for name)
  • “Initiate in the Unseen Court” (nod to Sanderson; I want to play a magic user with emphasis on Illusion magic, though I haven’t figured out how the character has access to magic)
  • “My Days are Numbered”

Roles

  • Noble d4
  • Scout d6
  • Scoundrel d10
  • Fighter d6
  • Scholar d8
  • Engineer d6

Approaches

  • Force d4
  • Flair d6
  • Smarts d10
  • Focus d6
  • Haste d6
  • Guile d8

Assets

  • Nandita d6 (ship’s AI and able to travel locally via drone)
  • Robe of Healing d6

Specialties

  • Mask of Many Faces d8

I’ll primarily use Stress. Option open for Complications (especially some global ones, such as Wanted by Nakajima Technologies), but the Stress will save my creative energies.
